The Wood Door Golem's Honest Price

The Dungeon Crawl Classics Wood Door Golem does not chase. It has 0’ movement and waits, which is exactly why parties walk into its slam: 2d6+3 damage that also initiates a grapple. The stillness reads as harmless until someone is pinned against the frame they were trying to open.

Then the attrition starts. Non-magical weapons deal half damage, so the fighters chip away and conclude the thing is unkillable. The spellcasters fare worse, because magic resistance gives spells a flat 50% chance to simply fail. Direct casting is a coin flip you lose half the time, and nobody enjoys burning a slot to watch it fizzle against a door.

The exit is written into the creature. Fire and heat deal double damage, and that vulnerability does not care about magic resistance when the source is a mundane flame. A lit torch, a flask of oil, a brazier kicked over. The construct that shrugged off swords and spells comes apart under something a first-level character carries for free.

At the table: When the party stalls at half-damage swings, let a passive Intelligence check or a whiff of scorched wood cue the obvious: it’s a wooden golem, and someone is holding a torch.
