The Rot Flower's Real Weapon

Shadowdark’s Rot Flower reads like filler. AC 9, 10 hit points, a bite at +1 for 1d4 damage. Nothing on that line survives a focused round, and nothing on that line threatens a healthy character. The stat block invites you to ignore it, which is the point.

The danger sits in the toxin. A creature that fails a DC 12 Constitution save goes unconscious for 1d4 rounds. That is the whole mechanic, and it is worth more than the bite will ever be. One failed save removes a body from the fight entirely, no damage required, and in a lean Shadowdark party that is a quarter of your action economy gone for up to four rounds. Stack two of these flowers and a bad roll streak and the encounter stops being about the flowers at all.

Kill it fast or stay out of reach. The flower does not chase, it does not flank, it waits. The cost it imposes is tempo, not blood.

At the table: Plant one Rot Flower in a room whose actual threat is something else (a patrol due to arrive, a timer counting down). Let the party dismiss it, then watch the DC 12 save decide who is standing when the real problem walks in.
