The Warlock's Boon Lottery
In Shadowdark, the Warlock runs on Charisma and its Patron. The Patron talent is the engine here, and it starts delivering Boon talents at level 1, rolled rather than chosen. Because they arrive by die roll, players tend to file them under incidental perks and move on. That is the mistake.
A Boon is not flavor. It is a defined capability that lands at a specific moment, and it reshapes what a Warlock can actually do on a turn. The player who reads the Boon they got, then arranges spells, later talents, and positioning to feed it, gets a sharp jump in output. The player who forgets it exists gets a character who casts a few spells and hopes.
The point is timing. Know which level your Boon becomes the thing your turn is built around, and stop treating that as a surprise. Everything else the Warlock picks up should serve the Boon it already has, not compete with it.
At the table: When a new Warlock rolls their level 1 Patron Boon, write it at the top of the sheet and pick the character’s first offensive spell to combo with that specific Boon, not the flashiest option on the list.
