Today’s Field Note

CISA added CVE-2026-8452, an unauthenticated RCE in Citrix NetScaler ADC and Gateway, to the KEV catalog and gave federal agencies until Saturday to patch. That deadline exists because it is already being exploited in the wild, and NetScaler has been the reliable entry point of choice for both ransomware crews and state actors for years now. Separately, a critical vulnerability chain in the widely deployed Avada WordPress theme allows an unauthenticated, zero-click RCE that drops arbitrary PHP onto the server. Both share the same shape: internet-facing, no auth required, and no time to schedule a maintenance window. If either is on your perimeter, you are already behind the people scanning for it.

Today’s Action

  • Patch Citrix NetScaler ADC and Gateway against CVE-2026-8452 now, and do not wait for the Saturday deadline that only binds federal agencies.
  • After patching NetScaler, hunt for post-exploitation: rotate credentials and session tokens, and review for web shells and unexpected config changes (assume patching alone does not evict an intruder).
  • Inventory WordPress sites for the Avada theme and update to the fixed release; if you cannot patch immediately, take affected sites offline or WAF the vulnerable endpoints.
  • Cross-check the rest of this week’s KEV additions (Linux and SQL Server bugs included) against your asset inventory and prioritize anything internet-facing.
  • Pull outbound and admin-session logs on both NetScaler and WordPress hosts for the past two weeks to establish whether exploitation predates your patch.

Saturday is CISA’s deadline, not the attacker’s. They started earlier.
